The importance of WASH in the workplace across our supply chain
We expect all suppliers to uphold basic working conditions, including providing essential Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities for their employees. To emphasize the importance of WASH in the workplace, we invite supplier to sign the WASH Pledge and contribute concretely to the implementation of SDG 6, while at the same time providing international best practice on WASH.
By signing the Pledge, suppliers commit to basic standard working conditions and to providing basic WASH facilities to all employees during working hours. Where our suppliers find gaps in their operations, we support them in identifying solutions to implement remedial measures.
In 2024, 43% of our global supplier base by spend is committed to WASH4Work.
We thank all our suppliers who signed the WASH Pledge since January 2020!
What is the WASH pledge?
Launched in 2013 by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the WASH4Work Coalition, this initiative builds on the recognition of the Human Rights to Water and Sanitation in 2010 and highlights the need to close gaps in access to WASH. The WASH Pledge for access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene offers companies a concrete way to contribute to the achievement of SDG 6, while aligning with international best practices on WASH.
Since January 2022 the WASH Pledge has transitioned from the ownership of WBCSD to WASH4WORK.

Signing the WASH Pledge
- sign the WASH Pledge form
- complete our onboarding survey
A company is recognized as a WASH Pledge signatory only after both required steps are completed.
While the WASH Pledge is a non-binding commitment with no formal reporting requirement, companies are encouraged to communicate their progress internally and externally, and to inspire other businesses and stakeholders to take action toward safe and adequate WASH access. We also strongly recommend submitting a case study and sharing updates with WASH4Work.
