ZPulse Doppler Current Sensor (DCS) 5400 Series

The Aanderaa Doppler Current Sensor is a rugged, vector-averaging sensor designed to measure current speed and direction in marine environments. Equipped with a built-in compass and tilt sensor, it can also output sea temperature. With a speed range of 0 to 300 cm/s, this sensor is ideal for mapping ocean surface currents. The ZPulse technology offers multi-frequency capabilities, enhancing performance while using only half the power compared to previous models. Its fast-response compass and tilt circuitry have no moving parts, ensuring excellent performance even in unstable areas, such as the wave zone near the surface.

In-line ZPulse Doppler Current Sensor (DCS) 5800 / 5810

The In-line ZPulse DCS is designed for seamless integration into marine systems, offering a compact and elegant solution. Based on a modified version of the ZPulse Doppler Current Sensor 4520, it delivers superior performance in oceanographic studies and marine currents monitoring. The sensor connects to a combined mooring and signal cable at one end and a continuation cable at the other, supporting loads of up to 1300 kg. Developed as an advanced replacement for the Aanderaa DCS 4100, it leverages newer technology to extend the capabilities of a typical marine Doppler device.

DCPS 5400/5400R/5402/5402R/5403/5403R - Doppler Current Profiler Sensor

The Doppler Current Profiler Sensor (DCPS) is a medium-range, 600kHz current profiler smart sensor designed to collect high-quality data on oceans and currents, even on moving and tilting platforms. It features advanced acoustic profiling capabilities, making it ideal for mapping ocean surface currents and understanding complex marine environments. The sensor is available in three depth-rated versions: 5400/5400R (300m), 5402/5402R (4500m), and 5403/5403R (6000m), suitable for both commercial and research applications. An integrated temperature sensor is included, which can be calibrated on request.

3 Integrated temperature sensor 4080 in the DCPS calibrated on request

4 ZPulse technology which improves the statistical precision. Complex acoustic pulses comprising several distinct frequencies are combined into a single acoustic pulse. The ZPulse based DCS separates the received signal into different frequency bands, one for each frequency in the transmitted signal. Further it analyses the frequency shift using a high speed Digital Signal Processor using an ARMA based parametric model processing algorithm to find the Doppler shift frequencies. This multi-frequency technique reduces the required number of pings needed in order to achieve an acceptable statistical error. The achieved measurement precision is proportional to the inverse of the square root of the number of ping measurements in a measurement interval. The ZPulse DCS uses two frequencies and this gives a reduction by a factor square root of two compared to a single frequency sensor. A single frequency sensor needs twice the number of ping to achieve the same precision as the Zpulse DCS.
