Xylem Vue’s Early Warning System (EWS) application provides a single platform for comprehensive river basin management and enhanced water resource management. Thanks to this technology, water authorities and emergency response teams can reduce the impact of extreme events as well as the number of citizens affected. It can also detect potential damage to infrastructure and facilities and optimize future planning and investments.

EWS, which is part of the Xylem Vue platform, is a useful tool to protect communities from this increasingly prevalent threat, providing real-time alarms and near-term forecasting of flood events.

  • Integration and processing of measured and simulated data on weather, water flow, and water levels. EWS combines this data with outputs from the basin’s hydrological and meteorological models, including the simulation of reservoir inflows and operations, into a single platform for comprehensive water management.
  • Early warning system for different types of floods, including flash floods with or without snowmelt. The application shows flood maps for different return periods taking into account river flow data and river level forecasts to estimate flood levels in advance.
  • Real-time warnings and alarms to help water authorities and civil defense organizations protect communities. These can be configured for mobile telephones and websites, depending on the type of users and their location.
  • Earlier activation of disaster management protocols, pinpointing potentially affected infrastructures (bridges, roads, schools, commercial premises), and recommendation of dam actions to minimize risks and damage.
  • Post-event evaluation of flood response protocols, the organizations involved, communication channels, and software systems.
