Application of Aanderaa Current Sensors in Marine Renewable Tidal Energy

Blue energy demonstrated with Aanderaa on a floating barge with turbines installed at both ends for generating electricity

This case study showcases a tidal energy project collaboration between Bluenergy Solutions and Xylem's Aanderaa. Located near Singapore’s Raffles Lighthouse, the project aimed to demonstrate the viability of Bluenergy's hydrokinetic turbines for clean energy generation, potentially replacing diesel with tidal energy.

Using Aanderaa’s SmartGuard datalogger, current sensors (Doppler Current Sensors and Doppler Current Profiler Sensor), and Geoview monitoring platform, the system provided real-time data on water currents and environmental conditions, which helped optimize turbine performance. This autonomous setup allowed Bluenergy to monitor and adjust turbine operations remotely, maximizing energy output and minimizing environmental impact while reducing the carbon footprint of local port operations.
