The Mediterranean’s only reef-building coral, Cladocora caespitosa, is endangered due to rising sea temperatures, pollution, anchoring, dredging, and invasive species. Its decline threatens marine biodiversity and ecosystem health. Local communities, students, and tourists need increased awareness and engagement to protect these vital habitats.
Xylem is partnering with Marevivo’s MedCoral Guardians program to support coral monitoring, restoration, and community engagement activities. The project combines scientific monitoring, restoration, and environmental education to preserve these unique coral colonies, involving local students, diving centers, and community members in hands-on conservation work.
