Water for Colombia
With Wine to Water
Rainwater harvesting for vulnerable communities
In the Amazonian region of Colombia, many families live without access to municipal water systems. Seasonal flooding damages wells, and socioeconomic vulnerabilities limit access to alternatives, leaving households dependent on unsafe sources. Rainwater harvesting offers a sustainable and adaptable solution to these challenges.
Xylem Watermark and Wine to Water are collaborating to install rainwater harvesting systems and provide training on safe treatment methods, ensuring families can collect and consume water that meets health standards.
Xylem solution
- Installation of 15 rainwater harvesting systems (SCALL): 5 in La Playa and 10 in Boquerón Bajo
- Each system includes a 1,000-liter storage tank, gutters, and PVC accessories
- Community education on rainwater treatment and the multiple barrier method
- Systems marked with Xylem and Wine to Water logos to ensure visibility and accountability
Beneficiaries: 75 people across two rural communities
