Replace "air gap" cybersecurity with a multibarrier approach

Abstract

The traditional “air gap” approach to cybersecurity in water utilities is no longer sufficient to defend against evolving cyber threats. This article proposes a multibarrier cybersecurity strategy that incorporates network segmentation, strict access controls, continuous monitoring, and regular system updates. By adopting a layered defense model, water utilities can better protect critical infrastructure and respond proactively to emerging risks.
