Supply Chain

With more than 10,000 Suppliers around the world, we’re aware of the great social and environmental impact of our supply chain. We work in close partnership with our suppliers to adhere and champion responsible business practices that strengthen the environment, global economy and society, creating a safer and more equitable world.

Sustainability is not only the right thing for businesses to do, it is the smart thing to do. Sustainable business practices are key to building a firm foundation to deliver shared value and innovation, uphold high governance standards and drive employee and stakeholder engagement.

We hold our suppliers to the same high ethical standards as we do ourselves. For that reason, all suppliers are expected to adhere to our Supplier Code of Conduct. In accordance with our procurement processes, all suppliers are required to be in alignment with our business standards, product quality, process capabilities, and commitment to sustainability.

Safe WASH as part of Supply Chain Resiliency

Xylem shared at World Water Week how addressing WASH with our suppliers is key to not only our Sustainability strategy but also to strengthening our Supply Chain resiliency. Since January 2020, more than 450 of our suppliers have committed to the WASH Pledge.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene are key elements of Health and Safety across our supply chain; the COVID-19 pandemic made the connection between WASH and business resiliency even more evident.

Procurement teams globally were fast to embrace WASH as a key pillar of our Supply Chain Strategy. In 2021, teams in the Asia Pacific region onboarded 200 suppliers in total with a majority located in India. These teams embedded WASH within their procurement processes, striding past their targets and having a positive impact on their communities.

“Xylem has set a new standard in mobilizing suppliers to take action on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) via the WASH Pledge, which will result in a significant impact towards our global goal SDG6:  universal access to safely managed water, sanitation and hygiene.  We applaud Xylem for their commitment to WASH and for raising the bar on leading practice in corporate WASH stewardship.”

Encouraging our suppliers to take the WASH Pledge for the workplace

As a water technology company, we believe that committing to the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Pledge is not only the right thing to do — it’s essential as global water challenges intensify and put communities at greater risk. We look forward to working with our suppliers to formalize our shared commitment to access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene across all workplaces in our direct supply chain.

Suppliers will provide Scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions and water usage information via CDP Supply Chain

Water is at the very center of global climate change risk. As climate change creates greater hydrological variation around the world, policymakers, regulators and the public are increasingly looking to utility providers to do more to solve critical water challenges for your communities today, and to mitigate growing problems that threaten the future.
The water sector also has an important role to play in the mitigation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
It is our responsibility to work with our suppliers to make sure we capture the water usage and GHG emissions in our supply chain; that we partner to continuously improve our performance against science-based targets.
